Dedicate a star.
This time of year is often full of family traditions, from where stockings are hung to how a Christmas table is set. Families create and develop their own traditions, becoming part of their celebrations and the stories they tell.
The love that goes into the creation and continuation of these traditions is an important part of the festive period for all families.
That love doesn’t go away if a baby dies. Every day in the UK 13 babies die shortly before, during or soon after birth. And we know that at least 15% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage or other forms of loss.
But baby loss isn’t inevitable. With better care and dedicated research, more babies can and should be saved.
We’re working tirelessly to ensure in the future, more families have a different story to tell.
Thank you for joining our Winter Walk this December Please dedicate a star in memory and show your support to Sands.

Sands is the UK’s leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity. For over 40 years Sands has been the informed voice of bereaved parents and families and provided accredited bereavement and mental health support.
Sands exists to:
- Support anyone affected by the death of a baby for as long as they need
- Work in partnership with healthcare professionals, NHS and governments, to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care
- Promote improvements in practice and research to save babies' lives
Baby loss is experienced by many but spoken about by few. Sands is determined to break the silence surrounding baby loss, to reduce the numbers of babies dying and to reduce the isolation felt by families when the very worst does happen.
