Every year Baby Loss Awareness Week provides a unique opportunity to raise awareness of the issues surrounding pregnancy and baby loss in the UK. Here in the UK, Baby Loss Awareness Week has grown year on year, and today is a collaboration between more than 100 charities in which Sands plays a pivotal lead role.
The funds generated from this year’s "Candles of Love" will enable us to continue to offer free bereavement support to anyone affected by the death of a baby, no matter how long ago and to further the aims of Baby Loss Awareness Week.
Each candle lit in memory of a precious and much wanted baby, will be supporting a commitment to raising awareness of pregnancy and baby loss, providing support to anyone affected by pregnancy loss and the death of a baby, working with health professionals and services to improve bereavement care, and reducing preventable deaths.
Every penny raised will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of bereaved families right across the UK and help to save babies‘ lives.

Sands is the UK’s leading stillbirth and neonatal death charity. For over 40 years Sands has been the informed voice of bereaved parents and families and provided accredited bereavement and mental health support.
Sands exists to:
- Support anyone affected by the death of a baby for as long as they need
- Work in partnership with healthcare professionals, NHS and governments, to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care
- Promote improvements in practice and research to save babies' lives
Baby loss is experienced by many but spoken about by few. Sands is determined to break the silence surrounding baby loss, to reduce the numbers of babies dying and to reduce the isolation felt by families when the very worst does happen.
