Cornish pixie to do charity skydive with her puppeteer friend - Children's Hospice South West

Cornish pixie to do charity skydive with her puppeteer friend

A man with outstretched arms like a bird's wings standing on summit of rocky mountain with clear blue sky

Hello friend,

Against my better instincts I have decided to jump out of a plane on the 23rd September of this year! Sounds like a mid-life crisis, I know, but actually it's a sponsored skydive to raise money for Children's Hospice South West.

I've always thought I have had a good head for heights...just not jumping from them! But luckily one of my puppets, a pixie by the name of Mazymeg, has offered to put aside her wings for the day and make the leap with me! The Cornish Parachute Club has kindly said she can, so it will be a double tandem skydive! She's already quite excited by the thought of accelerating from 0-120mph in ten seconds as we fall from a height of 10,000ft! I'm just trying not to think about those details too much!

Together we are raising money for the incredible work done by Children's Hospice South West. For over 30 years they have been offering dedicated care to children with life-threatening conditions, as well as vital support for their families.

And, as well as overcoming a personal fear and raising money, I will be commemorating my brother, Paul, who would have been two years older than me but who sadly died just weeks after his own landing in this world. I am hoping he will be with me in spirit as Mazymeg and I glide down over the beautiful North Cornish coastline.

If you are able to make a donation it would be a wonderful gesture of support. The first £220 of the sponsorship raised is to fund the cost of the skydive, with all the remaining money going directly to support care at Children's Hospice South West.

And by uncovering the jigsaw with each donation you'll get to see Mazymeg (with her wings!)

Thanks ever so much.

James

We provide hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their whole family across the South West. The care we offer is wide ranging; hospice stays, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care. We operate 3 hospices; Little Bridge House in North Devon, Charlton Farm in North Somerset and Little Harbour in mid Cornwall.

We offer a home from home where babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families can take a short break away to re-charge their batteries in a homely, warm and welcoming environment. Providing a much-needed break from the ongoing strains of caring for their children at home, juggling professional and medical appointments as well as maintaining family life and employment. In the main, we provide the chance for families to get away from it all, but we also offer emergency and palliative care in a peaceful and comfortable setting.
