St Joseph's Hospice

St Joseph's Hospice (or Jospice) was founded in 1962 by Father Francis O’Leary, while working as a young priest in Pakistan.

The hospice in Thornton opened in 1974. It is the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside and has been providing palliative and end of life care for adult patients from across Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and West Lancashire for more than 40 years.

We provide specialist palliative and end of life care, complementary therapy and bereavement counselling to hundreds of patients their loved ones every year. We are a registered charity and all our care is free of charge.

We have 29 patient rooms and are fortunate to be located in a beautiful setting within a conservation area and 12 acres of natural woodland.
