Spring Appeal 2023 - St Elizabeth Hospice

While nature begins to flourish and grow once more, so too has the demand for hospice services. Since 2020, the number of people in need of patient focused care in east Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney has increased from 3000 to a staggering 4000 each year!

You will have heard on the news the devastating impact the lack of funding is having on the NHS and the detrimental effect this is having on those requiring round the clock care at home.

Meanwhile, 70% of patients supported by the hospice choose to remain in their own home.

You may know someone close to you living with a palliative illness, who feels isolated, lonely and afraid? Families who wish to receive care at home, often need support to do so.

How you can help a patient today-

Your donation today will help the increasing number of patients needing care at home by funding community volunteers.

Patients are reliant on family, friends, and neighbours 95% of the time for their care. With the cost of living crisis hitting people hard and our busy lives, time is the fundamental thing family members struggle to commit to due to longer working hours/days during the week.

Your donation will provide community volunteers to deliver:
- practical support at home, such as help with shopping, cooking or cleaning
- emotional support; often having difficult conversations with individuals

Long term, your gift will help alleviate the burden and pressure a patient’s carer may feel by offering them respite, from what is often an extremely stressful situation for the family member or friend. Those receiving adequate support at home are less likely to be admitted into hospital.

As the number of people living with a life-limiting illness continues to grow, so too must the support that we can provide. With your help, we can expand our network of community volunteers so that patients and families feel supported and can remain where they want to be – at home.
