Two dogs. Two serious medical challenges. One lifelong promise.
Stitch recently suffered two major seizures after four years seizure-free. Given his neurological history, an MRI is an important next step in understanding what might be happening and determining the best way to care for him.
Maya, who has already made a remarkable recovery from severe complications of Cushing’s disease, is now hospitalized with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious but treatable complication of diabetes. Her body isn't able to use glucose properly for energy, causing dangerous levels of ketones and acid to build up in her bloodstream.
She's receiving continuous insulin therapy, IV fluids and intensive monitoring to correct the imbalance and stabilize her condition. Thankfully, Maya is responding well to treatment. Her glucose levels are improving, her acidosis is decreasing, and she's comfortable, alert and happy to go outside for walks. Her veterinary team is hopeful that, once stabilized, she can return to her foster family with her diabetes managed at home.
Stitch and Maya are both part of BTRC’s Set for Life program. These are special dogs who, for various reasons, aren’t candidates for adoption but have found loving foster families who have opened their hearts and homes to them for the rest of their lives. BTRC continues to cover their veterinary care so they can enjoy life surrounded by love and the comfort of a family of their own.
Set for Life isn't just a name. It's a promise.
From Stitch’s MRI to Maya’s emergency hospitalization, the costs are significant, and we need your help.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us keep that promise. Please add your paw print and help these two very deserving dogs get the care they need!
Set for Life. Loved for Life. Maya and Stitch.

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) is a registered Canadian non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers who are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Boston Terriers and Boston Terrier mixes in Canada.
Our program takes in dogs that are abandoned, neglected, abused, or that can no longer be cared for by their owners, and provides them with a safe haven, medical care, training, support, and TLC. Our ultimate goal is to match every dog with a permanent, loving home through our careful adoption process.
BTRC operates nationwide and does not have a central shelter facility. Instead, we rely solely on a network of kind and caring volunteer foster homes to help each dog transition from their previous life to their future forever home.
