Every 90 seconds someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury (ABI). Every ABI is different for the ABI survivor and coming to terms for them, their families and friends can be very distressing and difficult. For some their injury is, to an extent hidden, so it’s easy for them and their families to become isolated.
Headway Southampton and West Wessex work really hard to improve life after an ABI. We provide a Day Centre, face to face & on-line support groups in the community to support survivors and their families and carers. We also raise awareness of ABI and its effects.
Our work is is funded through the generosity of individual donors, grant funders, corporate partners, and various fundraising activities.

We are an independent charity covering Southwest Hampshire, Southeast Wiltshire and Isle of Wight providing much needed support and rehabilitation for those with an acquired brain injury (ABI).
Every 90 seconds someone in the UK is admitted to hospital with an ABI due to a variety of causes i.e. falls, head trauma, tumours, and strokes. An ABI can happen to anyone at any time, and everyone is different. Coming to terms with the effects for individuals, their families and carers, can be very distressing and difficult.
For some their injury is, to an extent, hidden so it easy for them to become isolated.
Our mission is to:
• improve their lives and promote independence.
• provide support and advice to families, and carers.
• raise awareness of the life changing effects of ABIs.
