We know, captive elephants are totally dependent upon food provided by their caretakers. So, it is important that their diet contain all required nutrients, in sufficient quantities and usable forms.

Nutritional management with proper supplements of minerals and vitamins are not only protecting the elephants from metabolic disorders but also defend from infectious diseases.

Different ages of elephants require different supplemental nutrition. Baby elephants, who are developing physically and mentally, need more nutrients in comparison to adult elephants. Geriatric elephants, our "Golden Oldies", have trouble with tooth transition and can not chew as well; particularly Asian elephants. The cutting edges of their teeth are less effective. This means less nutrition to the elephant, which normally, already only has a 45% digestion rate.

Then there is everyone in between, each with their own special nutritional requirements. Just as with people, good diets and exercise are key components to a healthy physical & mental life for elephants!
