Elephant Foot Care Clinic - Gentle Giants Elephants

UPDATE: Following Dr. Tom’s recommendation, we are building a small on-site medical treatment facility right where the training takes place! This space will allow our gentle ones to receive care or recover without the stress of being transported & without the heavy financial burden on their caretakers, who often must rent expensive trucks just to reach the hospital. This expense normally falls on us.

We have completed cementing the area, and as we gather the needed funds, we’ll build a treatment frame designed with their comfort and safety in mind.

This is a huge step forward in providing long-term wellness for our elephants—and we can’t wait to bring you along every step of the way.

What’s Next: A Safe Space to Learn and Heal

Before daily training begins, we’re building a special training structure, the plans are drawn. We’ve secured the funds for the 1st phase. This will provide a peaceful, protected space where each elephant can learn through trust, respect, & freedom of choice.

This space will be used for:

Daily foot care & behavior training
Medical care without stress or chains
Gentle socialization & enrichment time
Future educational tourism that centers the elephants’ wellbeing
Community outreach for other elephant owners to learn kind, sustainable care

Every single giant can benefit, not just those already in our program. That’s the beauty of a model built on compassion.

We have some unexpected but necessary expenses ahead. Wang Thong has developed unusual growths on her feet that need X-rays. We’ll also be taking a closer look at baby Sai Thong’s weight to ensure there are no underlying health concerns.

This program is more than foot care. It’s a full-circle effort to transform the way elephants are treated—with love, science, & partnership.

Gentle Giants Elephants is hosting a clinical presentation to our Surin elephant owners & mahouts on the importance of elephant foot health & care.

Step 1: We will have an elephant foot care expert visiting Surin Province to access the elephant's foot care needs.

Our expert will be meeting each of GG's elephants in Surin, along with their owners & mahouts. She will be assessing the elephants needs in regard to foot health. A veterinarian will be attending. Then there will be a day(s) presenting information, videos, etc to the group. As well as a Q & A & introducing (step 2) the upcoming foot care training we would like to offer. Training would greatly benefit the health of our elephants, as well as, offer the owners/mahouts an opportunity at a new career.
