Mother's Day fundraising ideas

Mother’s Day is an annual holiday, which is celebrated around the world. Interestingly, the date of this annual event differs by country, although the most popular date is the second Sunday of May.

However, as the Visufund team is based in the UK, we’re used to celebrating Mother’s Day (also known as Mothering Sunday) on the fourth Sunday of Lent.

Celebrating Mum

Whilst the origin of Mother’s Day and Mothering Sunday has been somewhat lost over the years, it is fair to say that nowadays, this annual celebration is the perfect opportunity to appreciate our Mums. Whether you’re sending her a card, cooking her favourite meal, buying a bunch of flowers, or just giving her a bit of peace and quiet (!), there’s lots of ways to show our Mums just how special they are.

Thinking of You

Of course, it’s important to remember that Mother’s Day doesn’t always feel like a celebration. For many people, such as those listed below, it can be a particularly difficult day.

  • People who have lost their Mum
  • People who have never known their Mum
  • People who have a difficult relationship with their Mum
  • People who have lost a child
  • People who are longing to be a Mum
  • People whose Mum is unwell
  • People who can't celebrate with their Mum, for any other reason

Fundraising Ideas

Like all annual celebrations and events, a lot of people prefer to donate to good causes instead of buying gifts. For bereaved supporters, a charitable donation can also act as a beautiful tribute to someone special, especially when shared with a photo of their loved one.

With this in mind, here are our suggestions for your Mother’s Day appeal!

Say it with (virtual) flowers

Plant a virtual flower for your Mum

Invite your supporters to plant a virtual flower for their Mum, in exchange for a donation. This is a great alternative to buying real flowers because a virtual one will last for much longer! Your garden will grow with every dedication message.

Tell her she’s a star

Dedicate a star to your Mum

If your Mum is the best Mum in the world, she must be a star! Dedicate a star in the sky or light up a star in her favourite colour and share a story about what makes her so amazing.

Mum to a Furbaby?

Say thank you to an animal charity for completing your family

If you love pets or want to support an animal rescue centre, you can still create a Mother’s Day page. Lots of people treat their pets as “furbabies” and so there’s no reason why you can’t ask for donations from grateful furbaby parents, who want to give that joy to someone else. Ask them to share their favourite photo of their pets and donate.

Light a candle in her memory

Light a virtual candle to remember your Mum

If you know a lot of people who will be missing their Mum this year, invite them to light a virtual remembrance candle and share a photo to celebrate her memory. This comforting act is a lovely way to pay tribute to a wonderful Mum and raise funds in her honour.
